Toyota Motor Corporation

Toyota Motor Corporation The Toyota Motor Corporation is one of the world’s biggest and most favourable automobile manufacturers (Borowski). It is the leader in environmentally friendly and technologically advanced cars. The official start up for Toyota was in 1937, as Kiichiro Toyoda launched the Toyota Motor Company. In 1952 Toyota exponentially grew to become successful. The company started to export cars to South America.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Toyota Motor Corporation specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Five years later the company gained ground on the North American market. Entering the US – market was for a breakthrough for Toyota in terms of automobile – exports. In 1982 Toyota Motor Company and Toyota Motor Sales Company joined forces to Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC). The company now has 522 subsidiaries, over 320 thousands staff worldwide and is producing not only in the 12 Japanese factories but also in 51 other locations in 26 countries. Toyota Motor Corporation had the highest share price value of all car manufacturers in 2007. In 2008 Toyota had total unit sales of 8.972 million cars and had an annual turnover of 239.4 billion US – Dollars. In the same year it adopted the status of â€Å"The biggest automobile manufacturer† (Borowski). Today Toyota is no longer the No. 1 automobile manufacture because of the financial crises since 2007 and their image has been damaged due to massive global recalls over sticking gas pedals (Borowski). Internal environment The internal environment of an organization is based on elements within the organization. It contains things like the organization’s structure and culture, its human relations policies and procedures and the skills and experiences of the staff. The Board of Directors in Toyota’s executive body and consists of 26 directors that comprise of the chairman, the vice chairman, the president, 8 executive v ice presidents, 13 senior managing directors, an honorary chairman and a senior advisor. The Toyota Motor Corporation has achieved a lot of goals throughout its history, but to retain its success they have to become more of a team. For that reason TMC developed a lot of techniques to production and employees, these techniques are often used in other companies or countries. Toyota is manufacturing its cars with the Toyota production System, it is based on â€Å"just in time† principles. So they have to trust every employee (Morgan and Jeffrey). The employee is of importance because even a line worker has the power to stop a manufacturing line. If he or she sees a problem they can stop the manufacturing line and on the other hand there is a risk of higher costs incurring should the lines be stopped. The most important aspect in a large and successful organization like TMC is the communication within the organization, as well as the communication between the customers and busine ss partners.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? There are seven guiding principles which affect Toyota’s actions and reflect its unique management philosophy. Technology As one of the biggest car manufacturers TMC spend a large amount of money to guarantee technologically advanced and high quality products. In 12009 Toyota invested 9.8 billion US – Dollars in its research and development department. TMC is deemed to be the innovator of the hybrid trend. The Prius was the first car with the electro hybrid drive and since entering the market this car has won twelve â€Å"Engine of the Year Awards† (Morgan and Jeffrey). Toyota has a leading position in the eco – friendly car segment since the last seven years. It was a true example of success within the eco – friendly market. Since Jan uary 2010, TMC is adversely affected by a series of breakdowns as a result of the massive global; recalls over sticking gas pedals. The organization anticipates a flood of lawsuits amounting to dozens of billions US – Dollars. Marketing Toyota is the most valuable car brand in the world, with a brand value of 58 billion US – Dollars. TMC is not only focused on general advertisement such as TV and radio, but they also focus on charity activities, motor sports, movies and many others (Borowski). The brand name is a representative of eco – friendly, beloved, efficient and dynamic cars. The logo of the company consists of three bonded ellipses, this symbolizes Toyota’s philosophy: the Ambition for customer satisfaction, innovation and the fusion of quality and creativity (Borowski). Toyota supply chain system Toyota is well known for its approach to problem solving and continuous improvement (Ananth, Sridhar and Roy). Toyota is a global auto company with many products across the globe with different characteristics that warrant different supply chain configurations. In addition, differences among the Toyota, Lexus, and Scion vehicles warrant different supply chain processes. Performance at Toyota is evaluated with equal weight given to both the process used to derive performance and the results achieved. This process aims to generate balance of key supply chain parameters – variety of products offered, velocity of product flow, variability of outcomes against forecast, and visibility of processes to enable learning. The automotive supply chain is very complex and consists of many processes that, when linked together, form a supply chain from the customer back to the various tiers of suppliers. The physical processes consist off the production of parts at the suppliers. The physical process consists of the production of parts at the suppliers, transportation of these parts to the assembly plant of the original equipment manufactur er, assembly of parts into a complete vehicle, distribution of completed vehicles to dealers, and finally delivery to a customer.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Toyota Motor Corporation specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In addition, to physical processes, there are both preproduction and day to day operational support processes. To fully understand these processes, some background on the auto industry is necessary. The following questions need to be answered; what is the product? Who are customers? What are the distribution models? (Ananth, Sridhar and Roy). Toyota supply chain Towards the end of the first revolution, the manufacturing industry saw many changes, including a trend towards a wide product variety. To deal with these changes, firms had to restructure their supply chains to be flexible and efficient. The supply chains were required to deal with a wider product variety without holding too much inventory. The Toyota Motor Company successfully addressed these concerns. The course of action The Toyota Company should come up with ideas that allow the final assembly and manufacturing of key components to be done in – house. The bulk of the components should be sourced from a large number of suppliers who are part of the Keiretsu system. This refers to a set of companies with interlocking business relationships and shareholdings. The TMC should develop long term relationships with all her suppliers. Essentially, these suppliers should be located very close to the Toyota plant assembly plants in order to facilitate the smooth flow of products within and without the company. However, despite the fact that there are challenges which are likely to be experienced by the company, it is important for the management to come up with more strategies which would ensure that the various products are produced at cost effective costs. Excellence in product development Given the dramatic changes in the automotive product development environment, it is obvious that a strong product development system is a crucial core competence and fundamental to the success of any consumer driven component. The growing complexity of the modern automobile, along with the changes which are taking place within this century implies that it is a high time that the company established several approaches which are going to ensure that the TMC products are quality products which have an edge in the market. The company’s system should be in a manner that it ensures that new products which match the customer needs within a region are on top of the production list. Essentially, it is worth noting that it might be challenging to produce products which cut across the needs of the entire consumer demand.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More However, owing to the nature of the competitors, the company should establish a strategy that ensures that the strategies which are put in place meet the objectives and goals of a given plant. Plant location As a multinational company, Toyota should seek to establish plants across the globe. This will ensure that it has the capacity and the ability to reach needs of the consumers across the globe. The global business strategy should be a major tactic for Toyota to keep consumers driving its products from generation to generation. This will call for launching slogans which respond to the regional consumer needs. By undressing the image of Japanese cars overseas, Toyota’s strategy will create a mirror of new indigenous products, which will be managed, designed, assembled and driven by the local people. This strategy should work if the local people feel comfortable with the products. Furthermore, the products which will be developed should be according to the local conditions, e specially weather conditions and economic infrastructures. By meeting the needs of the locals, Toyota will be in a position of spreading across the globe with the trademark brand Toyota. Ananth, Iyer, Seshadri Sridhar and Vasher Roy. The Quest for Individual Freedom in Liberalism

The Quest for Individual Freedom in Liberalism Liberalism is one of the principal doctrines in Western political philosophy. Its core values are typically expressed in terms of individual freedom and equality. How these two ought to be understood is a matter of dispute so that they are often differently declined in different places or among different groups. Even so, it is typical to associate liberalism with democracy, capitalism, freedom of religion, and human rights. Liberalism is has been mostly defended in England and the United States. Among the authors that most contributed to the development of liberalism, John Locke (1632-1704) and John Stuart Mill (1808-1873). Early Liberalism Political and civic behavior describable as liberal can be found across the history of humanity, but liberalism as a full-fledged doctrine can be traced back to approximately three hundred and fifty years ago, in northern Europe, England, and Holland in particular. It should be remarked, however, that the history of liberalism is entrenched with the one of an earlier cultural movement, namely humanism, which flourished in central Europe, especially in Florence, in the 1300 and 1400s, reaching its apex during Renaissance, in fifteen hundreds. It is indeed in those countries that most delved into the exercise of free trade and exchange of people and ideas that liberalism thrived. The Revolution of 1688 marks, from this perspective, an important date for liberal doctrine, underlined by the success of entrepreneurs such as Lord Shaftesbury and authors such as John Locke, who returned to England after 1688 and resolved to finally publish his masterpiece, An Essay Concerning Human Understanding (1690), wherein he provided also a defense of individual liberties that are key to the liberalist doctrine. Modern Liberalism Despite its recent origins, liberalism has an articulated history testifying of its key role in modern Western society. The two great revolutions, in America (1776) and France (1789) refined some of the key ideas behind liberalism: democracy, equal rights, human rights, the separation between State and religion and freedom of religion, the focus on the individual well-being. The 19th century was a period of intense refinement of the values of liberalism, which had to face the novel economic and social conditions posed by incipient industrial revolution. Not only authors such as John Stuart Mill gave a fundamental contribution to liberalism, bringing to the philosophical attention topics such as freedom of speech, the liberties of women and of slaves; but also the birth of the socialist and communist doctrines, among others under the influence of Karl Marx and the French utopists, forced liberalists to refine their views and bond into more cohesive political groups. In the 20th century, liberalism was restated to adjust to the changing economic situation by authors such as Ludwig von Mises and John Maynard Keynes. The politics and lifestyle diffused by the Unites States throughout the world, then, gave a key impulse to the success of liberal lifestyle, at least in practice if not in principle. In more recent decades, liberalism has been used also to address the pressing issues of the crisis of capitalism and the globalized society. As the 21st century enters into its central phase, liberalism is still a driving doctrine that inspires political leaders and individual citizens. It is the duty of all those who live in a civil society to confront with such a doctrine. Sources: Bourdieu, Pierre.  The Essence of Neoliberalism.  http://mondediplo.com/1998/12/08bourdieu. The poem Limbo Essay Example for Free

The poem Limbo Essay The poem Limbo is an extended metaphor for the parallel stories of the slaves journey alongside the limbo dance. Throughout the poem, lines and stanzas can be interpreted in many different ways due to the many meanings of the overall message. The title, Limbo itself has many different meanings. For example, the word stereotypically relates to the dance, made up by the slaves on board the ship in order to stay fit when attached to iron bars, in which the dancer has to go under the stick without touching it in order to stay in the game. The title also means a region on the border between Heaven and Hell, referring to the slaves journey on the ship as, in their eyes, India is Heaven and America is Hell, and they are in the middle of the two, journeying towards Hell. Alternatively, the word means a state of uncertainty or a state of imprisonment or confinement. The slaves were imprisoned on the ship with no means of escape, their future already mapped out in front of them. The poem is set out into 24 loose and rhythmic stanzas of varying lengths, giving the poem a beat as means to giving it backing music which the dance would involve. There are 7 repetitive choruses, making it seem more like a dance. These choruses are presented in italics to represent the echoing of the slaves replies to the guards. A lot of language devices have been applied in Limbo. The word stick is mentioned six times in the poem, and each way can be interpreted differently. In Limbo, the dance, dancers have to take turns going under the constantly lowering stick without touching it. If they touch the stick they face disqualification, running parallel to the fact that many slaves couldnt last the entire journey and were therefore thrown overboard in order to produce space. The stick also represents the whip with which the guards used to hit the innocent slaves with to get them in line. Lastly, this could mean the drumstick, which provides the beat and therefore atmosphere for the dance. Effectively, the poem is written in 1st person, as though Brathwaite was a slave and this is his own personal experience. This adds drama to the whole poem as it is presented as a first hand account and therefore more reliable. As a reader, it also makes us more vulnerable to succumb to this feeling of frustration at the way slaves were treated and what there thoughts and feelings were.

Essay --

English 103 Marla Allegre 20 November 2013 Abolishing the Death Penalty for Good One of the most controversial issues in the modern world concerns the acceptability of the death penalty. The death penalty is still exercised in many areas as a punishment for heinous crimes especially murder. Communities from the Europe and North America embrace the death penalty as a suitable punishment methodology and from 1608 to 2011 the United States has executed 14,489 people (Evans, Brian). The death penalty has come a long way from the firing squads that were used for the first recorded execution in 1608 of George Kendall for alleged espionage activity (Evans, Brian). However, pertinent issues concerning capital punishment are unlikely to be resolved soon due to the different justifications given by the different sides. Central issues of the death penalty revolve around the cost of the death penalty for the taxpayer’s verses life in prison, the errors that are made during criminal cases, and especially the argument that the death penalty does little to deter crime. Due to the economic crisis in the United States today death penalty opponents have formed their most successful argument yet-money. Just two states have abolished the death penalty in the past forty years, New Jersey in 2007 and New Mexico in 2009. The cost of capital punishment played a key role in both decisions, and is driving current legislative attempts to repeal the death penalty in a number of other states. The bittersweet reality is that money, not morality has become the reason for saving lives. In California, which houses the largest death row facility in the United States, it costs about $137 million annually to maintain the state’s capital punishment system (Lain,... ...me again that that is just not the case. In a time where the United States is in an economic crisis, it is time to start finding ways to cut budgets, and since the death penalty is a punishment that is rarely carried out, I believe that is a good place to start. Not only would we be saving billions of dollars in tax payer money, we would also cut down the rate of people falsely imprisoned on death row due to false testimony, new DNA test results or other new evidence. The claim that the death penalty deters crime can also be dismissed due to the fact that violent crime has been linked to the socioeconomic state of the country, not to the death penalty. If we abolish the death penalty we could use the billions of dollars we would save towards rebuilding the impoverished cities of our nation, and giving people with mental health issues the kind of care that they need.

Going Abroad Essay

When I was a junior student in high school, I got a chance to travel to Canada for a month. This trip was so unforgettable and also interfered with my study later on. The city I went to is Vancouver. This place is an easy and comfortable place to live. The weather is as warm as spring. I left my parents and lived alone for the first time. I lived with a local homestay. They were very kind to me, and the hostess was so warm that we still have contact right now. Once I got there, they went to the airport to meet me, and they hold up a board. The board said welcome to Canada in Chinese! I was greatly touched. During that month, I took the class with other students who came from other high school in China. There were four teachers who came from Canada local high school, taught us about Canada’s history, government, custom and took care of us at school. During the class, we also discussed the difference and similar between China and Canada. I noticed that I should to come out of th e country and see the whole world. We also had a principle took care of the whole team. The team just liked a mini school. After class, the teachers and principle became the tourist guides. They led us to visit the whole city. I had been to downtown to do some shopping, went camping and surfing as well. The most interested thing was the three-day camping. I never tried that kind of outdoor activity before, so I was so excited the day before we leave the homestay. The hostess helped me prepared my equipment and exhorted everything that I need to pay attention. On that day, the party set out towards to the destination, the Greentree Park. After two hours driving, finally we got there. The area of camping was opening ground with plenty of pine trees. It should have a lot of oxygen around us. After rest for a while, I started to pitch a tent. Before I went out, the teacher already taught me how to put up, but I never did it before. When I got the materials and the direction, I began to build it, and of cause this was hard to finish by myself, so I ask my friend, Mary for help. We spent an immense amount of energy, and the tent was been built finally. At that night, I slept in the tent, and through scuttle, I could see the sky was studded with twinkling stars. The sky was so beautiful and peaceful. I also could hear someone singing outside and voice was so sweet. It should be the most perfect scene I have seem. Rest of the day, I spent times with friend, draw a picture of what I had seem, and barbecued a lot of chicken for dinner. It was so much fun in those days. After this trip, I always mention it in my experiment when I talked to people. I am so glad that I can have this chance that can open my outlook. I can know more about the other country and accept different cultures. That can make me more confident and more vivacious.

Critical Appraisal of Contemporary Issue Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Critical Appraisal of Contemporary Issue - Essay Example lst public understanding on health issues cannot solely be attributed to media reporting, it is widely recognized that media has a high impact on people’s beliefs on health related behaviors. Therefore, timely and accurate translation of scientific information is important to avoid publishing information that will to some extent be misleading compared to actual findings of the research study (Kovacs 2011, 34). It is media’s responsibility to observe ethics and professional behavior in analyzing contemporary issues on health. Mass media is an integration of different mass communication channels that will transmit information both electronically and mechanically to the intended user. It will play a central role in linking health workers to the members of public both locally and internationally. Health authorities will educate and entrust the media with essential information that is transformed into readily accessible formats and transferred through a variety of media channels. Mass media is important because it is effective in widening the audience that will be communicated with recent health information (King and Watson 2005, 25).
